I Bet You Forgot This When Choosing Your Wedding Favors!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: Choosing, favors, Forgot, This, Wedding — admin @ 11:06 am

Choosing wedding favors, like so many other parts of planning a wedding, can be fun and enjoyable but at the same time, absolutely overwhelming.  There are so many beautiful choices for brides these days, from candles to kitchen gadgets and even seedlings, that any woman might feel as if she just has too many options.

The other problem a woman might face when purchasing the wedding favors is how many she’ll need.  Some opt to have favors for each individual guest while others will save a bit by having only one favor per couple.  This of course is a personal decision to make, but when you are finalizing the number of wedding favors you purchase, there’s one group of recipients that many brides fail to take into account.

And that group is the children.  Unless you’ve specifically stated that there are to be no children at your wedding, you know you’re going to have many of them there.  And anyone that knows children knows that they hate to see someone else get a gift when they don’t!

Having wedding favors only for the adults may be a big mistake at your wedding.  This might make the children feel left out just as they’re getting ready to go home; the last thing they’ll remember about your wedding is that they didn’t get that special little present that everyone else got!

On the other hand, if you do plan on having children at your wedding then this is a good thing to think about when choosing wedding favors.  There are many different options that would work well for children as well as adults.  As an example, you may want to steer clear of candles and kitchen gadgets and instead opt for chocolates or other edible items, seedlings for them to plant, or even photo frames – children will no doubt love having their own frame and can pick out a favorite photo for their bedroom!  If you opt for edible wedding favors, make sure you get something that kids will love such as Lifesavers or chocolates rather than mints or gum.

Of course your choice for wedding favors is going to be a personal one and if you decide to have just one per couple or family then this is your decision as well.  Weddings today are terribly expensive with just the necessities, so it’s no wonder that a bride may need to cut out a few luxuries here and there and wedding favors are sometimes the first thing to get trimmed.

But if you are going to have children at your wedding, do give them consideration in all of your planning and this includes the wedding favors.

Save Money on Your Wedding by Buying Wedding Favors

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: buying, favors, Money, Save, Wedding — admin @ 10:54 am

How in the world can we say that you would actually save money on your wedding by buying wedding favors?  It’s actually rather simple – you save money overall if you use those favors as not just gifts to give away to your guests but as a way to round out your decorations or even take the place of certain decorations such as your centerpieces.

Here’s how this works.  When your guests arrive at your reception you want them to be greeted with a beautiful layout and this includes the individual tables.  Most brides choose very expensive centerpieces for each table but your wedding favors can actually do double duty here.  When you purchase your favors, be sure to wrap them in festive wrapping paper or something that matches your reception’s décor and then stack them in a nice arrangement at each table.  Remember that you don’t want to just pile them up but arrange everything neatly.

You can also use your wedding favors as decoration at each table by putting them in the middle of the top plate if you’re having a plated dinner, or put them at the place setting the same way you would the wine glasses.  If your tables are not going to be set when guests arrive such as for a buffet meal, arrange the wedding favors in front of each chair the way you would when setting a table.  By using your wedding favors this way you are making your table look very festive so you don’t need to spend extra on your centerpieces.

Dressing up your wedding favors is important when using them this way.  For those in boxes you can definitely use that nice wrapping paper and make them even more special by tying them with long ribbon that you gently drape over the table.  You can use ribbon for wedding favors that you don’t wrap such as for candles.  And to go the extra mile you can use something special for the ribbon such as strings of crystal beads, fabric trim, lace, or even tassels.  You can take your time to browse a sewing supply store, craft supply store, or even a scrapbooking supplier to find just the right material to make your favors really stand out.

Another way to use wedding favors to dress up your table is to sprinkle the tables with flowers petals or confetti and then set up your favors.  This way your table looks very festive but you’re saving money on decorations and centerpieces; flower petals or confetti is almost always going to be more affordable than centerpieces!

Remember that your guests are very happy to be at your wedding and are happy for you, but they still needed to get dressed up, have purchased a gift, and are there for you and your big day.  Purchasing wedding favors is your way of thanking them for being there for you and helping to make your day even more special.  While everyone is concerned about their budget today, you want to reconsider any impulse to forego wedding favors altogether and instead get as much life out of them as you can by having them help to fill out your decorations and the look and feel of your venue.

Avoid These Mistakes When Making Your Own Wedding Favors!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: Avoid, favors, Making, Mistakes, These, Wedding — admin @ 10:54 am

There is absolutely nothing wrong with today’s trend of brides making or assembling their own wedding favors.  With the cost of weddings skyrocketing, it’s no wonder that she and her groom will want to trim a few dollars from the cost in any way they can.  And many companies sell beautiful supplies that require just a bit of effort to make your own wedding favors, the end product being just as stunning as any store-bought item.

But there are some words of warning that should be shared with any bride that is considering making her own wedding favors, as there seems to be some common mistakes that many brides are making these days.

For one thing, while you want to be conscious of your budget, you don’t want to skimp too much on your wedding favors.  Remember, these items are your way of thanking your guests for being there, and while it’s your special day, these guests did to through some effort to be there and to share in your day.  Not to mention the fact that they probably got all dressed up, paid a sitter, and sat through your father’s teary-eyed speech of how he remembers his little girl’s first day of school … and so on.  They deserve a small token of your appreciation for how they’ve made your day all the more special, and wedding favors are your way of expressing that appreciation.  So yes, keep your budget in mind but still plan on spending around a dollar per favor, at least.

Also, it’s tempting to use your computer to make up something personal such as bookmarks or personalized candy bar wrappers as wedding favors.  But be honest with yourself – how skilled and artistic are you with the computer and the creation of this type of thing?  Anyone can slap some clipart and fancy lettering on a page and call it a bookmark, but what does it really look like?  Most people who create those things professionally go to school for years to learn about how to balance things on a page, how to use certain fonts to complement certain designs, when certain styles are too busy versus those that need some more decoration, and so on.  Remember, your wedding favors are going to express to your guests your appreciation for their participation in your special day, and if you give them something that looks like your child created it, well, what will this say about how much you appreciate them as guests?

This isn’t to say that you can’t do this type of thing yourself, but might it be better to approach a friend or even someone you work with that is experienced in graphic arts and that can give you some assistance in this regard?  Or consider just purchasing these types of items online.  Most printed items that are sold as wedding favors such as bookmarks and personalized candy bar wrappers are usually very affordable even when you buy them from a professional company – usually a bit less than a dollar each.  With personalized candy bar wrappers, you can buy your own chocolate bars and assemble them at home, saving you even more money.

To avoid the mistakes of making your own wedding favors look a bit too cheap and even downright tacky, consider dressing up your choices as much as possible.  For example, if you buy candy in bulk and put it in tulle or net bags, purchase some ribbon at the fabric store that you can tie those bags with for a very festive and unique touch.  If you purchase individual bonbons to put in small candy boxes, wrap those boxes with beautiful wrapping paper in gold or silver or some color that coordinates with your wedding colors.

Again, there’s nothing wrong with making your own wedding favors but keep in mind that your guests will remember your wedding even after the day is over, so giving them a beautiful and thoughtful favor to take home is always preferable to anything that’s too cheap or simplistic.

Unique Wedding Favors For A Unique Couple

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: Couple, favors, Unique, Wedding — admin @ 11:06 am

A wedding favor can be unique if the theme or style of your wedding is different from the run off the mill ceremonies. Another way wedding favors are unique is if they are not intended to be used as favors in the first place.

Unique Wedding Favors by Theme

A theme for a wedding is not necessary only when you have a destination wedding; regular local weddings can have themes too. Some popular themes could be to replicate an era in time such as the 70’s or the Victorian Age. Or you could take a flower or shape to be the wedding theme; roses everywhere from the cake toppers to the centerpieces to the bridal bouquets will make everything look coordinated. An object like a butterfly or a flip flop can also be a great idea for unique wedding favors.

Dual Purpose Favors

By initially using the favors as place card holders, you can tell the guest that they can take them home and use them for notes or photos of their own. For a Vegas themed wedding you could give decks of cards or dice as favors and for a fairy tale theme, you could hand out horse drawn carriage photo frames.

An Asian wedding theme could have chopsticks or oriental soup spoons as favors; something people might not got out and buy for themselves but would like to use or display if they get them as gifts.

Practical yet Unique Wedding Favors

Luggage tags, tea infusers, wine glass charms and book marks are just some examples of unique wedding favors that are easy to utilize as opposed to be chucked away in some drawer. Everyone could use another bookmark and luggage tags get worn out quickly too. So, remember to give your guests something they can use.

Wedding favors, whether unique or typical do have one limitation most of the time; they have to be pretty small. This is because they are usually placed on tables before the guests arrive and hence should not take up much space when the food is served. If you have a unique wedding favor idea that is a little different from the usual size; then you may want to make someone in charge of handing it to guest s on their way out.

If you score a great deal on a poster print that complements your wedding theme for instance, then hand it out at the end as opposed to guests having to fumble with it during the reception and meal.
Imported Unique Wedding Favors

If you think all your friends have probably visited the same websites or read the same bridal magazines for unique wedding favor ideas; then you’re probably right. If you really want to wow your guest, get something not readily available in the US. Indian handicrafts, Japanese candy or British tea are just some examples of unique wedding favor ideas that your guests can not just pick up at any store.

Avoid Monogrammed Wedding Favors

In an effort to get a really unique wedding favor, many couples opt to personalize the item with the initial of the recipient. While this is a very generous gesture on their part, it is not very practical. Some guests may not be able to make it even if they RSVP’d that they could. Others might have to bring in an extra guest or two and you won’t have the time to get their specific initial engraved or embossed.

Favors can get mixed up and misplaced; it is better for everyone to go home with the same favor rather than Tim leaving with a ‘P’ candle and Rose with an ‘S’ embroidered handkerchief.
